In the wake of history: the sights of Egypt

It is mistakenly believed that all tourists go to Egypt to go diving, enjoy the warm Red Sea and relax in the hotel according to the All inclusive system. Egypt is famous not only for its rich underwater world, a variety of delicious food, well-maintained beaches, but also a lot of historical places.

In Kemete, as the Egyptians called their state in antiquity, many ancient monuments of architecture, open-air museum towns, temples and places of worship have been preserved. We offer you to get acquainted with the main attractions of the country, which are of particular value to the Egyptian people.

Giza Pyramids
The great Egyptian pyramids are the main attraction that every vacationer wants to see. The burial place of the pharaohs is located in the suburbs of Cairo on the Giza plateau, in the town of Giza of the same name.

The temple complex consists of several buildings and cemeteries:

– the tombs of Hafren (136 m), Menkaur (61 m) and Cheops (146 m);
– temples leading to the tombs of Egyptian rulers;
– “satellite pyramids” with the deceased spouses;
– Four necropolises with the burial of relatives and court pharaohs;
– a statue of the Great Sphinx (20 m high and 73 m long).

The pyramids of Giza are one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.

Ancient City Museum Luxor
Luxor is Egypt’s greatest mystery and one of the largest open-air museums. On the territory of the Arab cultural center there are a large number of ancient monuments and memorabilia.
Thebes, the capital of ancient Egypt, called Wasset in ancient times, was located earlier in Luxor. Modern Luxor is divided into two zones divided by the Nile. On the west side is the city of the living, and on the east is the city of the dead.

Two famous temples were built on the right bank – Karnak and Luxor, united by the Alley of the Sphinxes. Both holy cloisters were erected in honor of the god Amon-Ra. Each of the temples has halls of giant 16-meter columns, decorated with colored panels to the very top. On the shore of the sacred lake on the south side of the pantheon there is a granite statue of a scarab beetle revered by the Egyptians.

On the opposite side of the Nile is the Valley of the Pharaohs, where there are more than 50 tombs of Egyptian rulers, including Tutankhamun. Pharaoh’s wives are buried in the Valley of the Queens. The tomb of Nefertari is considered the most beautiful grave. You can get to Luxor from Hurghada, Makadi Bay or Safaga by bus. And from the capital of Egypt it is more comfortable to travel by train.

A large city on the Mediterranean coast where tourists can look at the beautiful Abu al-Abass mosque with a 73-meter minaret. There is also the Hydrobiological Museum with 50 aquariums, which are inhabited by representatives of the fauna of the Red and Mediterranean Sea, the Nile River.

In Alexandria, the old library, founded in the 3rd century, was restored. BC e. By Alexander the Great. The Faros lighthouse, which is included in the list of 7 wonders of the world, also has historical significance. Among the interesting places you can also highlight the National Museum, the Roman Amphitheater, the catacombs of Kom el-Shukaf, the Greco-Roman and the Museum of Jewelry.

Color canyon
An amazing attraction Color Canyon is located 150 km from the resort town of Sharm El Sheikh. An unusual natural formation appeared after a strong seismic thunderstorm, which divided Mount Sinai. Precipitation and wind washed out a 5-kilometer crack, which as a result became a popular sightseeing place. Throughout the canyon, tourists can observe the rainbow transitions of flowers on and the bizarre outlines of rocks up to 80 meters high, which form a stone corridor of different widths.

Mount of moses
Mount Moses has many names – Sinai, Jembel-Musa, Horeb. According to the Bible at this place God bequeathed to the prophet his holy commandments. You can get to its peak in two ways – through the 3750 steps repentance staircase (short path) and along the Camel Trail, which extends for 8 km in a spiral (long road). Climbing ends with the Ladder of the Nuns, consisting of 750 steps.
Along the tourist trail, benches and tents are installed where you can eat and quench your thirst. Climbing the mountain peak lasts about 3 hours. On the mountain is the chapel of the Virgin, the temple of the prophet Elijah in the caves and the mosque of Mohammed.
